about me

Mel grew up in New Jersey. She longed for adventure and played pretend a lot. She went to SUNY Purchase where she earned her BFA in Acting and started pretending professionally. One day, she got tired of pretending, got into her car, and headed West. She has since done a lot of crazy shit she always wanted to do. She unplugged from the Matrix. She hung out with princes and hobos and crust punks and Deadheads and shamans. She worked her way around the country in youth hostels, permaculture farms/intentional communities (wwoofing), bed & breakfasts, recreational areas, and national parks…doing everything from hotel managing to teaching yoga to waitressing to tour guiding to managing mule rides. She was searching for a place to call home, but found a lot of other shit instead. She lived at the Grand Canyon for almost two years in a cabin with no wifi (gasp). She did not take enough pictures and forgot how to have something to show for. She learned how to ride a horse and became the reigning Queen of Medieval Times. She came back to civilization when she realized she had stories to tell. The adventure’s not over, and it turns out she’s still homeward bound. She writes in the lonely times and performs with friends in the happy times. She’s also a teacher/mentor for neurodivergent students, and is passionate about guiding them in finding their voice, and place in the world.
